My Background

I have worked as a psychotherapist since 2007. I received an M. A. in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder. In addition, I have completed the advanced training in Somatic Experiencing, the revolutionary approach to trauma pioneered by Peter Levine; and have trained in Internal Family Systems, which harmonizes the conflicting voices in the psyche through contact with one’s intrinsic well-being. I have also worked as a substitute foster parent for sexually abused children, and have volunteered as a crisis counselor for the Boulder County Mental Health Center and as a caregiver in hospice work.

My psychotherapy is informed by my long-term experience in the practice and teaching of mindfulness meditation.  Mindfulness, the simple act of  knowing what is happening in the present moment, is a deeply healing skill that can help clients with the full range of psychological challenges. I have practiced meditation for 27 years, including many months of intensive silent retreat, and I have taught meditation since 2003. I lead weekly sitting groups in Boulder and meditation retreats on the Front Range and in the Rocky Mountain west.

I worked for five years with children as an environmental educator for the Massachusetts Audubon Society. I also worked for 12 years as an ecologist and wildlife biologist in New England, including research with black bears, songbirds, beaver, and wetlands.
